Fantasy owners like to attach special meaning to players in contract seasons, presuming that the best is yet to come due to that extra external motivation. Sure, it worked once for Adrian Beltre and many others, right? Of course, the overall data is far more mixed when it comes to those looking for big deals playing better, and we’re seeing that this season with the disappointing performances of NL West third basemen Pablo Sandoval and Chase Headley.
