Pleasant surprises among top relievers

Let’s talk closers! With roughly a third of the MLB season complete and much upheaval in terms of injuries and torn UCLs and hitters performing below expectations, it’s actually been a relatively quiet season so far for closers. After all, of the top 20 relief pitchers chosen in ESPN ADP, 19 of them remain their teams’ ninth-inning options. Oakland Athletics right-hander Jim Johnson is the only one not getting saves, and is the lone top-20 reliever in ADP currently owned in fewer than 90 percent of leagues. So we’ve been lucky! Here are random thoughts on the relievers at this point:
