Heavy workload for Perez

Could Royals catcher Salvador Perez use a day off?

Manager Ned Yost has penciled in Perez for each of Kansas City’s first 17 games. The skipper “dislikes answering questions about Perez’s playing time. But he inserted backup catcher Brett Hayes for the final two innings on Sunday,” writes Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star.

Perez is batting just .108 in his last nine games and has just one hit in a four-game stint as the cleanup hitter. While Billy Butler is set to return to the cleanup spot as soon as Monday, it remains to be seen when Perez gets some well-needed rest. The Royals due not have a day off until next Monday (April 28), so maybe Perez sits one game this week.
