Arizona done?

After a report surfaced Thursday that the Arizona Diamondbacks may not done dealing and may be focused on right-hander Rick Porcello, GM Kevin Towers has all but shot down that idea, tweeted Steve Gilbert later in the day. After trading Justin Upton to the Atlanta Braves, the Snakes were reportedly set to try and package a pitching prospect plus shortstop Nick Ahmed, whom they will be acquiring from the Braves once that transaction is made official, in an attempt to land right-hander Rick Porcello from the Detroit Tigers. Bob Nightengale of USA Today supplied the report.

Porcello, a ground ball pitcher, is a fit at Chase Field, since the ball travels well there when hit in the air. He's not exactly vintage Kevin Brown, however. Other clubs linked to Porcello include the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners.

ESPN Insider's Keith Law has more on Ahmed's future:

Ahmed's bat a big question mark

"Nick Ahmed was the ninth-best prospect in Atlanta's system, a good defensive shortstop with a plus-plus arm but very little offensive upside; he loads his hands very deep, leading to a long swing, and doesn't have the plate discipline to allow him to compensate."
