Dion Waiters shot the ball a bit on Sunday, however the loose cartilage in his knee is still bothering the guard and head coach Byron Scott didn't sound optimistic when talking about the rookies return to the active roster.
“I don’t think he’s even close. I’m just going by what I’ve seen,” Scott told the Akron Beacon-Journal. “Every time [team physical therapist George Sibel] touched it this morning, [Waiters] seemed to be making all these moves like it was hurting. Just from that, I don’t think it’s close.”
The team initially gave a one week timetable for Waiters, however with just 24 days remaining in the season it makes sense for him to have surgery to clean out the knee. That would officially end his rookie year.
Wayne Ellington has started at shooting guard with Waiters sidelined and he'll keep that role moving forward.
