Tre Campbell getting mid-major looks

There were a number of standout performers at this past weekend’s Under Armour/DC Assault DMV Tip-Off Classic, but one player who really stood out was point guard Tre Campbell (D.C./St. John’s College).

The 6-foot-1 point guard shot the ball extremely well, connecting on 7-of-9 from 3-point range and finishing with 28 points to lead his squad to a 65-64 win over Suitland. A number of high major programs have also taken notice of Campbell’s high level of play on the court.

“I have offers from VCU, Penn State, George Washington, St. Joseph’s and Old Dominion,” said Campbell, who is also gaining interest from Miami and Georgetown.

When you watch Campbell compete its easy to see why programs are lining up for his services. He plays the point but makes an impact scoring like a shooting guard. He displayed a quick and confident trigger and also did a nice job penetrating and kicking to open teammates – often finding 6-foot-4 junior wing James Palmer.

"I am a point guard who can run the team, get my teammates involved and I can knock down shots,” Campbell says of his game. “I will need to continue to get stronger and work on my ball handling to improve."

If Campbell continues to perform at a high level on a consistent basis, expect him to be one of the 2014 players that will be on the rise as the high school season progresses and pop up on many college coaches' lists going into the spring evaluation period.
