Russ Smith's unexpected recruiting story

Russ Smith was the poster child for Louisville’s surprising Final Four run a season ago, going from a player who didn’t play in 10 of the Cardinals’ final 13 games as a freshman to one who averaged 11.5 points and 2.2 steals per game as a sophomore.

He’s continued to exceed expectations as a junior this season, averaging a team-high 18.9 points per game, third best in the Big East for the No. 1-ranked Cardinals.

While Smith’s production may be surprising to those who have followed him since his freshman season at Louisville, it is even more shocking to those who have watched him since his high school days.
