Rutgers strikes quickly with Rector

Only a couple of weeks after Rutgers became the first high-major school to offer senior guard Shane Rector (Bronx, N.Y./South Kent School) a scholarship, the playmaking guard has rewarded the Scarlet Knights with a verbal commitment.

Rector, who is in his first season at South Kent after transferring from St. Raymond’s in New York City, gave Rutgers head coach Mike Rice a verbal commitment on Thursday and is now the first player to join the Scarlet Knights’ 2013 recruiting class.

In a day and age where most guards -- and especially those coming out of New York City -- pride themselves on their ability to get to the basket, Rector is one of the best breakdown drivers around because he can get anywhere he wants on the floor. And not just in transition, but also in half-court sets.
