Oakland lands in-state forward

Class of 2013 Power forward Jalen Hayes (Lansing Mich./Sexton) has given Oakland University coach Greg Kampe a verbal commitment and Hayes is very excited about his pledge to the Golden Grizzlies over offers from Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, St. Bonaventure and Akron.

"I am very comfortable with the coaching staff especially coach Kampe and coach Saddie Washington," he told ESPN.com. "Oakland was the best and perfect fit. The playing style, offense, academics. Everything was a good fit and connected together well."

At 6'7 and about 200 pounds Hayes is long and skilled with terrific upside. He will be a good fit in the Oakland dribble-drive style offense. Hayes will be a combination forward in this type of system and potentially cause match up problems.

"Finishing around the rim is what I do best and I have to keep working on my motor being consistent," Hayes added.

Hayes is an excellent prospect who is also a winner. Sexton is one of the elite high school programs in the state of Michigan and the defending state champions.
