New LSU coach inks two

Recently hired LSU coach Johnny Jones announced his first two signings for the Tigers on Monday.

Inking letters of intent were junior college small forward Shavon Coleman (Thibodaux, La./Howard College) and shooting guard Shane Hammink (Canary Islands, Spain/Canarias Basketball Academy).

Coleman averaged 14.7 points and 6.6 rebounds as a sophomore at Howard College.

"Shavon Coleman will be a great addition to our basketball team," Coach Jones said Monday night. "He has a knack for scoring. He is a great defender and he can create other opportunities for the players on the floor with him. We look forward to his competitiveness moving this team forward in the future."

Hammink is the son of former LSU center Geert Hammink (1989-93).

"We are excited about the signing of Shane Hammink," said Jones. "It means a lot as a program for us to have a young man whose father had the chance to play for us. For him to allow his son to be a part of our program speaks volumes for what he feels about LSU and our staff. We look forward to the addition of Shane because of his ability to pass, shoot and create opportunities for others on the floor. He has the ability to defend the 1, 2 and 3 spots so with that versatility it will allow us to play a different way and it will bring a lot to our basketball team."

The duo joins fall signee Malik Morgan (River Ridge, La./John Curtis Christian) in Jones' incoming class.
