The Daily Press (Hampton, Va.) is reporting that senior power forward Montrezl Harrell (Tarboro, N.C./Hargrave Military) has been granted a release from the letter of intent he signed with Virginia Tech.
The news was confirmed to the paper by Tech associate athletic director for internal affairs Tom Gabbard.
"We'd have loved to have kept him, but (Tech men's basketball coach James Johnson's) position is if the young man doesn't want to be here with us on his own part, then we won't keep him here," Gabbard told the paper. "(Johnson) would like for him to be here, but you only get one chance in your life time to play college basketball. We released him yesterday."
Kentucky, Louisville, Cincinnati and N.C. State have been rumored to be involved with Harrell since requesting his release more than a week ago. Gabbard also noted that Harrell was granted a full release allowing him to sign with any school.
