The Memphis Tigers nabbed a verbal commitment from local shooting guard Markel Crawford (Memphis, Tenn./Melrose) on Wednesday, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
The 6-foot-4 Crawford is ranked as the No. 32 shooting guard on ESPN.com. He chose the Tigers over Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State and Marquette.
"(Assistant coach Damon Stoudamire) had a whole lot (to do with the commitment). He showed great support and he was on me the whole time," Crawford told the paper.
Crawford recently tore his ACL in an AAU game and is expected to be sidelined until January.
