N.C. guard Clay Byrd makes choice

2-star shooting guard Clay Byrd (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) committed to UNC-Greensboro on Tuesday, ESPN.com has confirmed.

Byrd chose the Spartans over Appalachian State and Yale.

"The lefty was one of the most proficient shooters at the EYBL and had the best stroke of any rising senior at the Carolina Challenge in March," ESPN's Dave Telep noted. "Byrd's one of those kids who is a specialist and there's a reason to think he can reach the vaunted 40 percent mark behind the arc for the Spartans.

"The commitment is big because it's Wes Miller's first in-state player as head coach and the programs's first since forward Ben Stywall."

Byrd is the first 2013 commitment for UNCG.
