Arizona PG picks Trojans

The Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday that senior point guard DeWayne Russell (Peoria, Ariz./Peoria H.S.) has given Southern Cal a verbal commitment.

"I just feel like it's a good fit for me," Russell told the paper.

"This is a good pick up for the Trojans," said ESPN.com Recruiting Coordinator Joel Francisco. "The Trojans needed help at the point guard position and Russell will help out immediately.

"He's physically ready for the D-I level due to his strong frame and Nate Robinson-type of athleticism. He needs to polish his point guard skills as he plays too fast at times, but the upside is there and the overall depth for point guards out west is depleted."

The 5-foot-11 guard also considered Colorado, San Francisco and Oregon State. He joins power forward Strahinja Gavrilovic (La Jolla, Calif./La Jolla Prep) and junior college transfer J.T. Terrell (Charlotte, N.C./Peninsula College) in the Trojans 2012 class.
