Reggie Cameron's stock on the rise

Reggie Cameron (Paterson, N.J./Hudson Catholic) is blowing up ahead of schedule.

The skilled 6-foot-7 forward is one part of Hudson Catholic's big three, which also features Michael Young (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Kavon Stewart (Paterson, N.J.), all of whom are running with the Playaz Basketball Club on the Nike EYBL circuit.

Paterson Catholic has hosted a series of coaches this week for its spring workout with Cameron reportedly picking up an offer from Florida and potentially Michigan as well.

Cameron is one of the most pure shooters the Northeast region has to offer in the 2013 class and his ability to rain 3s from deep range instantly changes the game.

The biggest question moving forward is what position he defends at the high-major level?

“That’s what people are asking me right now,” Cameron acknowledged last week, “but I’m working really hard on my quickness so I can guard a 3 at the next level.”

Even offensively, Cameron is looking to add new weapons. While his long-distance shooting is the most-notable weapon in his arsenal, he showed some flashes of utilizing his size on the interior at the Playaz Spring Fling.

“In the past, people have said that I didn’t have a good inside game, so I’ve been working on that too,” he said. “That and getting the defensive rebounds and being able to push it and find my teammates up the floor.”

Projecting for the next level, you have to like the fact that Cameron has an already-established identity. Plus, he embraces his identity, while acknowledging and working to address his weaknesses.

Plenty of college coaches like him too. He now claims offers from Florida, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Villanova, Northwestern, Miami, Providence, DePaul, Cincinnati, Xavier, and UMass with additional interest from Clemson, Michigan, Florida and Notre Dame.

Look for that list to only get bigger before it gets smaller as there simply aren’t many 6-7 shooters in the country who can stroke it as well as Cameron.
