Three-star quarterback Casey Cochran (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) will make things official Thursday when he is scheduled to sign a letter of intent to play for the University of Connecticut.
Cochran, the state's top recruit in the Class of 2012, has to complete one more week of high school before he graduates. He is scheduled to enroll at Connecticut in January.
Cochran completed 150-of-219 passes for 3,067 yards and 37 touchdowns (six interceptions) last season. He is the state's all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
Earlier this month, Connecticut received a commitment from Chandler Whitmer, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback who transferred from Butler (Kan.) Community College.
Whitmer, who attended Illinois before he transferred to Butler, will be eligible in 2012.
Morgan nearing decision
Four-star safety Wayne Morgan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Erasmus Hall) confirmed Wednesday that he will choose between two schools: Connecticut and Syracuse.
As recently as last week some New York media outlets had Morgan still considering Rutgers as well.
“Yes, it's between Syracuse and Connecticut,” Morgan said. “Both want me to play defense.”
Morgan took an official visit to Syracuse earlier this month. He is scheduled to visit Connecticut in January.
Syracuse may have the upper hand since the Orange plucked defensive back Brandon Reddish from New York City (Fort Hamilton High School) last February. Reddish was Morgan's host during his official visit.
Morgan, who is the No. 3 prospect from New York in the Class of 2012, was selected to play in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Phoenix, Ariz., on Jan. 3.
