Marcell Lazard names a top four

Offensive tackle Marcell Lazard (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) saw his college options increase Tuesday when South Florida became the latest school to extend a scholarship offer.

Lazard, a 6-foot-6, 290-pound junior, has also received offers from Michigan and Central Florida since national signing day. He has six other offers: Buffalo, Connecticut, Maryland, Miami, Virginia and West Virginia.

He said the offers from Connecticut, Miami, Michigan and West Virginia are the most appealing to to him.

“Those schools would be my top four,” Lazard said. “I want to make sure the school has my major (sports management) and a coaching staff that's going to be there during the time I'm there. Those are all good schools with good football programs.”

Lazard is scheduled to attend a West Virginia junior day Saturday. He said he plans to take an unofficial visit to Michigan later this month, and has scheduled a visit to Connecticut in March. Lazard has already been to Miami.

Lazard said Boston College, Georgia, Penn State and Syracuse are other schools that have shown interest and may be close to making an offer.

Despite being close to his home, Rutgers is a school that hasn't been in contact with Lazard recently.

“I was interested in Rutgers, but the last time I heard from them is when I attended the West Virginia game,” Lazard said. “They're flying under the radar.”
