Don Bosco has work cut out for it

Another week, another tough out-of-state opponent for New Jersey's Don Bosco Prep.

Don Bosco and its army of Division I recruits will face St. Edward, last year's Division I champion in Ohio, Saturday night at Fordham Stadium in the Bronx. St. Edward is 6-0 this year and owns a 21-game winning streak.

Don Bosco (4-0) has already beaten Mission Viejo (Calif.) and Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.) this season, and will enter the contest with a 39-game winning streak. Don Bosco running back/defensive back Jabrill Peppers carried the ball 14 times for 133 yards in last weekend's 33-22 triumph over Bergen Catholic. Peppers will be among the top recruits in the Class of 2014.

Don Bosco cornerback Yuri Wright, defensive end Darius Hamilton and safety Elijah Shumate remain uncommitted. All three are four-star recruits.

Lakewood also has a roster stocked with future Division I players. Boston College-bound tight end Sam Grant is one of five Lakewood linemen who have committed to Division I schools. The others are tackle Kyle Kalis (Michigan), guard Tyler Orlosky (West Virfinia), defensive end Darryl Render (Pittsburgh) and defensive tackle Greg Kuhar (Northwestern).

Boyle's back

Quarterback Tim Boyle (Middletown, Conn./Xavier) returned from a shoulder injury suffered in a season-opening win against Notre Dame-West Haven to throw a touchdown pass in Xavier's 49-7 victory over Amity on Thursday night. Boyle has scholarship offers from Boston College and Syracuse.

Xavier, which improved its record to 4-0, is the top-ranked team in Connecticut.

Peele's on the run

Ruhann Peele (Linden, N.J./Linden) committed to Rutgers as a wide receiver, but is being used as a running back during his senior season.

Peele rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in Thursday night's 13-7 victory over Watchung Hills. Peele's TD helped tie the game, 7-7, late in the fourth quarter.
