Lackawanna sending three players DI

Signing day is not just a big day for high school seniors, as Lackawanna (Pa.) College can attest. On Wednesday, three juco prospects at Lackawanna will sign letters of intent to Division I programs.

Offensive lineman Mark Glowinski is headed to West Virginia. Running back Lorenzo Taliaferro is committed to Coastal Carolina, and defensive lineman Bernardo Nunez will sign with UMass.

For Taliaferro, Coastal Carolina provided him an opportunity no other school was willing to give him: a chance to play running back.

“I had interest from [FBS] schools but they wanted me to play fullback,” he said. “I feel that I can do more than just blocking. A lot of schools I could see were second guessing my talent. I want to go to a school that appreciates my talent on the first look.”

Taliaferro made a visit to Coastal Carolina recently, and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. He likes the campus, facilities and people, and it’s located right near the beach.

A Virginia native, being closer to home was pivotal in his decision.

“That played into it a lot because my mom is a single mother and she doesn’t know much about football,” Taliaferro said, “but she loves the fact I can do what I can do. It’s only a five-hour drive for her.”
