Anzalone high on Gators after visit

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- ESPNU 150 Watch List linebacker Alex Anzalone (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyoming Area) visited Florida with his dad this weekend. Anzalone arrived on Thursday and left Saturday after Florida completed its third practice of the spring.

Anzalone said his visit was better than expected.

"It went really well. It was awesome," Anzalone said. "We got to see all the facilities and the coaches. We went through schemes to see where I would play. Yeah, it was awesome. The practices were intense. Definitely a lot different than my high school. I know coach [Will] Muschamp was disappointed with the first practice I guess because of the tempo, but I thought it was pretty high-tempo for me."

The versatile Anzalone, plays offense and defense for his high school team and said the Florida coaches like him on both sides of the ball.

"When I walked in there they said I could play offense or defense," Anzalone said. "I know the offensive coaches really wanted me, but I decided to stick with outside linebacker."

Though he said his Florida trip was awesome, Anzalone was not ready to name a leader, or even a top five.

"I don't have a top five or anything like that just because I have a bunch of visits coming up," he said. "But I know Florida is definitely up there."

Anazolone's father went to high school at Crystal River in Florida and also attended medial school at UF. Anzalone said that does give Florida a slight advantage over some of the other schools he is considering.

"He just tells me about the background of the school and about the academics," he said. "So yeah, I guess it helps to know more about the university."

Anzalone's mother could not make the trip to Gainesville this time, but Anzalone said it's possible she could visit Gainesville next month for the weekend of April 20.

As for Anzalone, he will be a busy man over the next few weeks with several visits planned.

"I'm going to Notre Dame next weekend," he said. "The weekend of the 31st I'm going to Ohio State, and then the first weekend of April I'm going out to California to see USC, UCLA and Stanford."

Anzalone said he will make his final decision before his senior season, but is unsure of an exact date.
