LB Kiser commits to Virginia

Micah Kiser has committed to Virginia, according to assistant coach Henry Russell.

The linebacker from Baltimore (Md.) Gilman told ESPN this week that he was down to Virginia and Maryland among his many scholarship offers.

Kiser cited academics as one of the main priorities in his recruitment and said Virginia offered a top-flight education. He also had grown close to the coaching staff there, including head coach Mike London.

"I like coach London," Kiser said. "He's a great coach. He has a great message and he really cares about his players."

Kiser said he was drawn to Maryland because it was the in-state school but ultimately Virginia's academic offerings won out.

"I just felt like I had my mind made up and there was no need to delay," Kiser stated via text message to ESPN when asked why he made the sudden decision. "Me and my family all believed that UVA was the best place for me so I decided to ... Coach London was really excited and screamed on the phone. He was happy I was joining the family."
