Stanford gets first 2014 commitment

Stanford’s first commitment of the 2014 class is a good one -- one who ultimately could shape the rest of the recruiting class positively.

Confirmed by a text message from his father, ESPN Watch List safety Brandon Simmons (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Timberview) gave his verbal pledge to Stanford and coach David Shaw early Saturday afternoon before the program’s spring game. The 2014 defensive back is expected to be Stanford’s first signee from Texas since the 2012 class.

Simmons chose Stanford over offers from across the country, including ones from Michigan, TCU, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and the Pac-12 schools he visited. He was recruited by Stanford recruiting coordinator Mike Sanford.
