Versatile OL Schlottmann No. 5 for TCU

With only four commits -- the last coming in April -- and with other Big 12 programs well into double-digit commitment statistics, TCU was in need of a pickup or two. On Thursday, the Horned Frogs landed their fifth commitment and their first offensive lineman of the 2014 class.

Austin Schlottmann (Brenham, Texas/Brenham) confirmed that he committed to TCU Tuesday evening.

A 6-foot-5, 285-pound, versatile lineman, Schlottmann chose TCU over more than a dozen other offers.

Schlottmann picked up a TCU offer in May, and he took an unofficial visit to the Fort Worth, Texas, campus on Tuesday. After talking it over with his family, Schlottmann decided to be a Horned Frog, choosing TCU over Texas Tech.

“It felt like the place I needed to be,” Schlottmann said. “My parents will be able to make the games. The facilities are awesome and the coaches are great.”

Recruited by offensive line coach Eddie Williamson, Schlottmann had offers from TCU, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Arizona State, Louisiana Tech and Tulsa, among others. While he had an idea of choosing TCU before Tuesday’s visit, Schlottmann said being on campus further solidified his decision.

Schlottmann now will focus on being a multipurpose athlete for the offensive line. Schlottmann plays right tackle for his high school, but he can play tackle, guard or center.

“Coach Williamson said that I could play any position on the line. It honestly wouldn’t matter to me,” Schlottmann said. “I would be comfortable wherever.”
