Goines on Missouri: 'We are good'

There was a time when three-star offensive tackle Simon Goines (Keller, Texas/Central) wavered about his commitment to Missouri. The idea of playing in the SEC and not in the Big 12 – where many games are played in his home state of Texas – had Goines thinking about possibly choosing a different school.

After an official visit to the Missouri campus early last month, and after having time to fully weigh all pros and cons, Goines said Wednesday night that he is solid with his commitment to Missouri and is looking forward to putting on a Tigers uniform.

“Mizzou is a special place,” Goines said. “You don’t realize it until you visit there, but my official visit confirmed it.”

Goines, who committed to Missouri in July, took the official the weekend of Dec. 9 and not only had a good time meeting with players and coaches but also learned a lot about the campus and its overall environment. Recruited by defensive coordinator Dave Steckel and offensive line coach Josh Henson, Goines silenced all rumors about him considering decommitting from the Tigers. He even had to dodge reports in November saying the decommitment was a done deal.

“We are good,” Goines said of him and Missouri, which has 17 commits in its 2012 recruiting class.

Standing 6-foot-8 and weighing just under 300 pounds, Goines is the No. 60-ranked offensive tackle in the country, and he is ranked No. 76 among all players in Texas. Goines, in addition, is hoping to get the chance to play basketball for the Tigers, as he is a standout power forward who increased his agility and quickness by playing AAU basketball over the summer.
