Per Dallas Skyline High School’s recruiting coordinator Jason R. Garrett, senior linebacker Domenic Spencer committed to Central Florida on Monday and will sign a national letter of intent with the Knights Tuesday morning.
A two-star linebacker, Spencer is expected to be an outside linebacker in Conference USA. The 5-foot-11, 215-pound senior chose UCF over an offer Navy and interest from North Texas, Iowa State and UNLV.
“It’s a heck of a move for him, and he’s elated,” Garrett said early Monday afternoon. “Coach [George] O’Leary got off the phone with mom and dad. He’s going to fax the letter of intent [Tuesday].”
Spencer, a high-motor player, was a catalyst on a Skyline defense that included fellow linebacker and Texas signee Peter Jinkens and ESPNU Watch List defensive tackle Kerrick Huggins, among other standouts. Spencer became Skyline’s 13th commitment from the 2011 class.
Skyline, a Texas Class 5A Division I state semifinalist, was a top-20 team in the final Fab 50 poll. Spencer’s most memorable game may have come in the second round of the playoffs against DeSoto, another team that spent the majority of the season in the Fab 50. Spencer had a team-high 12 tackles in a 41-31 victory.
“I was born to lead,” Spencer said after that game. “I’ve got a motor, and every play, I go hard.”
