Running back Johnny Jefferson (Killeen, Texas/Shoemaker) is verbally committed to Texas A&M -- at least for now.
Jefferson said that while the Aggies are still No. 1 in his heart, he is calling his commitment a soft verbal until he gets a chance to check out additional options that are available. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound junior said he received some guidance from a special family member, and he’s going to take the advice.
“My grandmother always would tell me not to be so close-minded. She said to explore all my options around me,” Jefferson said. “I’m still committed, but I just want to look around and see what else is out there before I make that hard commit.”
Jefferson’s exploration starts with a visit to TCU on Friday. Jefferson has been offered by Ohio State, Notre Dame, UCLA, Houston and Illinois, and he said he’s planning on visiting Ohio State and attending Notre Dame’s spring game.
“I’m going to take these visits and see what everybody has to offer,” Jefferson said. “You never know what they have to offer until you see for yourself.”
Jefferson originally committed to the Aggies on Feb. 18. TCU and Oklahoma State are among the schools that haven’t offered but are showing considerable interest.
