Last week was the most productive week from a recruiting standpoint for running back Dez Wortham (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron). This week started the same as last week, and he’s hoping this week will be a duplicate.
Wortham has eight offers, five of which have come in the last seven days. His latest offers were Utah State on Sunday and Navy on Monday.
Four of Wortham’s eight offers – Kentucky, Wake Forest, Connecticut and Colorado State – were earned on consecutive days last week. Wortham also has offers from Houston and San Diego State.
“It’s definitely a blessing,” Wortham said. “I feel honored, and I’m just soaking it in. It’s not anything I’m doing differently. I’m just going out working to be the best running back I can be. The coaches are out, and they like what I do, and I’m just working hard every day.”
Wortham is considered a do-everything back because of his size and speed. He’s a 6-foot, 205-pound back with 4.5 speed in the 40-yard dash. He bench presses 305 pounds and squats 465. Wortham rushed for 917 yards and 14 touchdowns and also caught 22 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown last season.
He thinks his versatility will aid in him adding to his list as the summer season approaches.
“I’m looking to get touches, whether I’m receiving the ball or carrying ball inside the tackles,” Wortham said. “I want to go somewhere where a team has the best setup for me to get the ball in space and allow me to go 1-on-1 with cornerbacks or linebackers and pick up big chunks of yards.
“I don’t have a problem playing in a spread offense, because that’s what we do here [at Hebron], but I also don’t have a problem playing in a pro-style set. I’m pretty versatile.”
