ANGOLA, Ind. – Corey Winfield (St. Louis/Riverview Gardens) has six offers to his name, but he is looking to land his biggest on Saturday.
Oklahoma State will host the 6-foot-1, 175-pound cornerback on Friday, and Winfield is “highly interested” in the Cowboys. It will be Winfield’s first opportunity to meet the coaches, and that will be key in his recruitment.
“I’m going to have to be comfortable with the players and coaches,” Winfield said. “That’s the main point because they’ll be the people I’ll be with the next four years of college.”
Oklahoma State also has a mechanical engineering program, which Winfield wants to pursue. He said any school without that specific program is unlikely to land him.
Missouri is interested in Winfield, and he spoke with cornerbacks coach Cornell Ford last week. The Tigers want to see Winfield in camp Sunday, but he is not sure if he will go.
Ball State, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Purdue, Western Kentucky and Wyoming have offered Winfield, and Illinois and Indiana are both interested. Winfield does not have any favorites, though.
“Not yet,” he said. “I’m still staying open to every school. I’m not ready to make my decision yet. (A commitment will come) probably in the middle of my season or right at the end.”
