Cornerback Brad Watson (Austin, Texas/Round Rock Westwood) has announced via social media that he has verbally committed to play for Wake Forest.
“Just got off the phone. I'm a Deacon #GoDeacs #WakeForest #committed,” Watson tweeted.
A 6-foot-1, 170-pound cornerback, Watson visited Winston-Salem, N.C., and the Wake Forest campus over the weekend. He had a connection with Demon Deacons outside linebackers coach Derrick Jackson from when Jackson was his area recruiter at Rice in 2011. Jackson took the Wake Forest position in February and kept his ties with Watson.
Wake Forest was Watson’s lone reported offer, but he had interest from Rice, Baylor, Houston, Texas A&M and Arizona State. He was a second-team, all-district selection who recorded 59 tackles, three interceptions and a fumble recovery for a Westwood team that advanced to the second round of the Texas Class 5A Division I playoffs.
Watson became the Deacons’ fourth commitment in a four-day span. He is the first secondary player of Wake Forest’s 2013 class.
