TAMU camp recap: DeSoto (Texas)

DESOTO, Texas – With rain in the forecast, many wondered if the Texas A&M camp at DeSoto’s Eagle Stadium would take place on Thursday. Not only did the rain hold off and the camp proceed as scheduled, but the multiple athletes in attendance put on a show – particularly during 1-on-1 drills.

As Texas A&M prepares for its first season competing in the SEC, Kevin Sumlin and his coaching staff are looking for players that will build on the program’s tradition. He’s also searching for athletes who can be just as potent as the players from the Alabamas, LSUs, Georgias and Arkansas of the conference.

Some of Thursday’s athletes showed signs of what the Aggies are looking for throughout the camp. Here are eight athletes – listed in alphabetical order – who consistently made plays at the camp.

  • 2013 CB Dakota Austin (Lancaster,Texas/Lancaster): Austin is one of those athletes who takes pride in lining up against the elite receivers. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound cornerback didn’t disappoint coaches on Thursday, playing tight defense and making life difficult for receivers in pass-catching situations. Austin has offers from Texas Tech and Utah State, and he recently picked up an offer from Indiana.
