It’s been a documented road traveled for Daniel August (Tulsa, Okla./Victory Christian), but the 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive end finally has an FBS offer.
August recently picked up an offer from Arkansas State and earned his first FBS offer and second offer overall. August’s first offer came from defending Division II champion Pittsburg State (Kan.).
As happy as he was with the first offer, he said there was something special about receiving the Arkansas State offer.
“It was real cool. I was kind of speechless,” said August, who was recruited by linebackers coach Brandon Hall. “I was like, ‘Finally, I got one.’ It was a relieving feeling to get a D-1 offer.”
August said he was offered by Pittsburg State at a team camp and was planning to visit Arkansas State but hurt his left ankle in Kansas. He said he made a call to the Red Wolves coaching staff to inform them he wouldn’t be in attendance.
In turn, he received an offer and was invited to a camp on July 22.
“It’s been hard for me because I’m at a smaller school,” August said. “When I go to camps and combines, I’m going up against [Class] 6A or 5A guys. For me to get my name out, because scouts are only seeing me on film, I have to show out at camps. It’s been a lot harder for me, but I feel like all my hard work is paying off finally.”
In addition to his offers, August also has heard from Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa and Wyoming. He is currently preparing for his Arkansas State visit, as well as an Oklahoma State visit on July 28. August added that he is doing speed and mobility drills to become a better pass rusher.
