Recruiting on the rise for CB Austin

Recruiting for cornerback Dakota Austin (Lancaster, Texas/Lancaster) is starting to pick up at the right time.

After competing at the inaugural Camp of Conquerors 7-on-7 tournament, Austin said he has seen a slight spike in interest among college coaches. UTEP was the latest to offer him on Wednesday, and he also is entertaining offers from Texas Tech, Utah State and Indiana.

“I think the tournament helped. The competition was the main thing,” Austin said. “It was a good experience. You don’t get that kind of competition every day. It helps to see where you are and what you need to work on.

“As for recruiting, it’s heating up right now. It’s better than it was two weeks ago.”

Austin, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound cornerback, has attended camps put on by Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Kansas State and Oklahoma State. He has received good feedback in every camp. Austin is expected to be a major contributor in Lancaster’s secondary for the 2012 season.

In addition to his four offers, Austin has received interest from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, LSU and New Mexico. He is going to LSU on July 15 and is hoping to get an offer from the Tigers.
