Chris Hardeman picks up OSU offer

Prior to the start of Friday, 2014 cornerback Chris Hardeman (Houston/Alief Taylor) was nearing 20 offers and was entertaining some heavyweight programs. By Friday evening, Hardeman had picked up an offer that even shook his head in disbelief from.

Hardeman’s latest offer comes from coach Urban Meyer and Ohio State. It’s his 18th offer overall but also an offer the 5-foot-9, 180-pound cornerback holds in high regard.

“I like Ohio State a lot. I don’t have a top list yet, but it’s easy to push them out in front,” Hardeman said. “They’re a contender for my No. 1 spot.”

Hardeman has additional offers from LSU, Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Texas A&M, among other programs. Recruited to Ohio State by offensive coordinator Tom Herman, Hardeman had 42 tackles, eight pass breakups and an interception as a sophomore in 2011.

“I call Coach Herman every week,” Hardeman said. “I know they’re going through camps right now, but they had a chance to sit down and watch my film this week. I guess that’s when they decided to pull the trigger.

“Coach Meyer’s a winner. He goes out and gets the best players. For them to offer, that holds a special place with me.”

Hardeman was a second-team, all-district selection who uses his speed to his advantage. He’s run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds and the 100-meter dash in 10.5 seconds.
