At the start of the week, three-star cornerback Maurice Chandler (Lawton, Okla./Lawton) told everybody around town he was going to commit to Texas Tech at its camp Thursday.
Chandler is a man of his word. Following an impressive performance at the camp he committed to the Red Raiders, Lawton coach Randy Breeze confirmed Thursday.
Chandler is known for his speed and he showed it, running the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds at Tech’s camp.
“He is a glider,” Breeze said. “He is so fast and what’s incredible is how fast he is able to get to full speed. You’ll watch him in the 40 and think he’s just jogging. You’ll look up and see he’s run a 4.4. Special kid.”
Chandler, who is 6-foot and 185 pounds, is ranked No. 6 in Oklahoma. He also had offers from Kansas State, Oregon State and Arizona State, among others.
He had seven interceptions last season and had three touchdowns of more than 100 yards.
“He is a game-changer, no doubt about that,” Breeze said. “He has a big personality, and I think he’s going to fit in great at Tech.”
Chandler is the 10th commit in the 2013 class for the Red Raiders and the second cornerback.
