WR Gunter, QB Jones still Bobcat solid

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – One of the most impressive teams at the Texas State 7-on-7 Championships have two players expecting to put on Texas State Bobcats jerseys in 2013.

And although wide receiver Brice Gunter and quarterback Tyler Jones committed to the Bobcats, many feel both players will have multiple opportunities to decommit and choose a different place to go.

Gunter and Jones made it clear on Thursday: Don’t expect a decommitment.

“We’re committed. We’re both solidly committed,” Gunter said. “There are people still talking to us, but we are solid to Texas State.”

To which Jones then replied, “Eat ‘em up, Cats.”

Gunter, a four-star receiver ranked No. 177 in the ESPN 300, and Jones, a two-star quarterback ranked in the top 100 among quarterbacks nationwide, have been a solid duo not only in the state tournament but throughout the 2011 season and 2012 spring offseason. The two were Texas State’s first commitments of the 2013 recruiting class. Jones committed on June 12, Gunter on June 13.

Jones threw for 3,155 yards and 33 touchdowns, and Gunter caught 69 passes for 1,099 yards and 15 touchdowns last season, leading Stephenville to the Texas Class 4A Division II state quarterfinals.
