COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Warren Redix (El Paso, Texas/Montwood) used the Texas State 7-on-7 Championships as his method of recognition – and he didn’t disappoint, making spectacular catch after spectacular catch throughout the weekend event.
Redix, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound receiver with good speed, established himself as one of the receivers to watch in the 2014 class, and he played with multiple objectives at the tournament.
“I want to surprise a lot of teams, play hard and win games,” Redix said. “I go hard every play. I never stop. I only know one speed, and that’s full [speed].”
Redix’s sophomore-season stats were impressive. He caught 59 passes for 1,071 yards and 15 touchdowns and also rushed 19 times for 239 yards – an average of 12.6 yards per rush – and seven scores for a Montwood team that advanced two rounds deep in the Texas Class 5A Division II playoffs.
Redix has yet to score an offer, but UTEP, San Diego State, Navy and Texas Tech all have been inquiring about him. With elusiveness, great hands and 4.5 speed in the 40-yard dash, Redix can be both a slot receiver and an outside receiver in a college program.
