Hoops now the focus for Seals-Jones

Two-sport star and ESPN 150 receiver Ricky Seals-Jones (Sealy, Texas/Sealy) has one more big basketball event to worry about before he puts himself into football mode once again.

Seals-Jones, the nation’s top-ranked receiver and the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2013 class, is playing AAU ball for the Rytes Warriors, a team that is scheduled to compete Thursday through Sunday in the Las Vegas Fab 48 in Las Vegas.

Seals-Jones, a 6-foot-5 forward on the basketball court, is coming off a Great American Shoot-Out performance in Duncanville, Texas, where he scored 42 points in a loss. He was one of the nation’s most prolific scorers last season, averaging 32.3 points and 15.2 rebounds a game.

From a football perspective, Seals-Jones on Tuesday said nothing has changed with his recruiting, and he doesn’t have any visits lined up. He’s still looking at Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Baylor and Oregon, and he’s still very interested in playing both football and basketball in college.

Seals-Jones, who lined up at multiple spots on the field in 2011, rushed for 1,245 yards and 15 touchdowns and also passed for 761 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions as a quarterback. As a safety, Seals-Jones recorded 68 tackles and five interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

Seals-Jones plays multiple positions out of necessity but has made it clear he will be a receiver on the college level. He most recently put on a show this month at The Opening in Beaverton, Ore., lining up as a receiver.
