Fred Lawrence (Abilene, Texas/Cooper) is still looking for his first offer, but he’s picked up some interest thanks to elevated play in 7-on-7 and at summer camps.
Lawrence, a 5-foot-10, 171-pound cornerback, has added interest from Louisiana Tech, Missouri, New Mexico State and several other schools. Lawrence was a first-team, all-district cornerback last season and is looking to duplicate his efforts in 2012.
Lawrence has the quickness, make-up speed and athleticism that has made coaches want to put him on notice for the upcoming season. Lawrence said Louisiana Tech was the latest school he conversed with.
“I’m talking to a lot of schools,” Lawrence said. “They are just telling me to keep up on the good work and stay humble. I talk to most of the coaches every week.”
Lawrence didn’t take any unofficial visits because of Cooper’s loaded 7-on-7 schedule, but he did make appearances at camps hosted by Baylor, SMU, North Texas and Texas State. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds at SMU. Lawrence said no official visits have been set up at this time.
