Players to watch: Prosper, Texas

PROSPER, Texas – It was 2:15 a.m., and the Prosper, Texas, football team was in the middle of drills during its very first practice of the 2012 season. A decent crowd was in the stands watching -- many of whom had to get up for work early in the morning.

That’s the attitude of -- and the respect for -- Prosper football around the community. The program, preparing for its first year of Class 4A football under head coach Kent Scott, participated in Midnight Madness early Monday morning and delivered a friendly message to the rest of its competition.

“While these other teams are sleeping,” Prosper safety Money Hunter said, “we’re getting work done.”

Hunter and his brother, four-star, ESPN 150 receiver Torii Hunter Jr. -- as well as four-star, Elite 11 participant Davis Webb -- were among the most recognizable players on Monday. Webb has committed to Texas Tech; Money has offers from West Virginia, Utah and SMU; and Torii is entertaining nearly 20 FBS offers, including Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Nebraska and, most recently, Alabama.

Prosper, however, is more than just a three-headed monster. The team has the tools to win its district with the help of a talented group on offense, defense and special teams. Here are 10 under-the-radar players to watch, in alphabetical order, throughout Prosper’s football season.

  • 2014 DT LaMarcus Allen: Allen is the younger brother of Javelle Allen, a freshman quarterback at Arizona. His father Shawn also played college football. At 6-foot-2 and 275 pounds, should be a solid recruit as a defensive lineman.
