ESPNU Watch List and 2013 prospect Ra’Shaad Samples (Dallas, Texas/Skyline) had a fulfilling weekend, as he not only celebrated a big postseason victory but also his ninth scholarship offer.
Samples, a receiver, was a primary contributor in Skyline’s 42-24 win over Klein (Texas) Oak in Saturday night’s Texas Class 5A Division I Region I semifinal. The junior caught five passes for 58 yards and a touchdown against a Klein Oak team looking to hand Skyline its first loss of the season.
Samples’ play may have been motivated by picking up an offer from UCLA on Friday. Samples now holds offers from UCLA, California, Houston, Kansas State, Kansas, Texas Tech, SMU, Tulsa and Colorado State.
“It means a lot knowing that national schools all over are starting to notice my talent,” Samples said. “I took [the UCLA offer] like I took all of my other offers; I was excited, proud and blessed to be in this situation.”
Samples, a 5-foot-11 ,165-pound receiver with 4.5 speed in the 40-yard dash, leads Skyline (ranked No. 15 in the latest Fab 50) in receptions (58), receiving yards (1,280), total touchdowns (19, all receiving) and yards per catch (22.1). As a sophomore, Samples caught 27 passes for 485 yards and six touchdowns.
