DE Solomon Thomas talks Ole Miss offer

Friday proved to be a pretty good day for ESPN Watch List defensive end Solomon Thomas (Coppell, Texas/Coppell).

Earlier in the day, Thomas picked up an offer from Ole Miss, his second SEC offer overall. Later Friday, the 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive end helped Coppell stun Allen, Texas, which was ranked No. 14 in the ESPN 25 Power Rankings.

Thomas, with the Ole Miss offer, now is entertaining scholarships from 15 FBS programs.

“I feel very blessed and grateful for the opportunity to play for a program like that,” Thomas said of Ole Miss. “They are in a great conference and have been known for making names in the NFL. I’m very blessed to have the opportunity.”

Thomas, who has helped Coppell to a 5-0 record, has offers from Texas, Oklahoma, Clemson, Notre Dame and West Virginia, among others. Texas A&M, the other SEC program on Thomas’ list, also has offered.

Thomas said playing in the SEC is something he’s considered, and he’s hoping the Ole Miss offer will open things up to where other schools in the conference will follow suit. Thomas, however, said he will keep all of his options open and choose wisely when the time is right.

“I feel like the SEC is a very well-known conference for the style of play, for sending players to the pros and for national championships,” Thomas said, “but I will not choose a school based off the conference. I just hope my playing will prove myself for these other schools to offer as well.”
