Rising 2014 outside linebacker Gyasi Akem (Broken Arrow, Okla./Broken Arrow) caught the Red River Rivalry on television last weekend. This weekend, he will make a trip to College Station, Texas, for what some fans are hoping will become a new rivalry.
Akem will take in the Texas A&M-LSU game in an SEC battle that is considered one of the biggest home games hosted at Kyle Field. The Aggies have expressed interest in the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker, and he’s hoping to add to his list of offers.
“I want to see what they’ve got,” Akem said. “I’ve heard some rumors of the story of the 12th man. I definitely want to hear the whole story.”
Akem currently has one offer from Arkansas State. Schools such as Oklahoma State and Texas Tech have shown high interest. Akem said he ultimately will choose a school that has a good football program and a solid criminal justice program.
Akem is expecting a rowdy crowd at Kyle Field -- something similar to what he would have experienced at the Cotton Bowl. Akem said he didn’t get an invite to the Texas-Oklahoma game, but he enjoyed watching it on TV.
“I thought it was very eye-opening. I thought it’d be a lot closer than it was,” Akem said. “I’m hoping to see a good game this weekend.”
