The feeling that new Kansas signee Zach Fondal (Corsicana, Texas/Navarro College) had when he woke up Wednesday morning was right on cue.
“It felt like Christmas,” Fondal said. "This was a Christmas gift to myself.”
Fondal, a soft Arkansas commit since September, decided last week to take his talents to Kansas. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound, three-star tackle and mid-year juco transfer signed with the Jayhawks on Wednesday morning.
Recruited by Kansas wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Ianello, Fondal signed with the Jayhawks over offers from South Florida and Texas Tech -- as well as Arkansas. He took a visit to the campus in November.
“Most campuses are nice, but it was all about a feeling of being at home,” Fondal said. “I really felt like it was home for me. I visited with the coaches on my visit, and I just reflected on what they were saying.”
Fondal, originally from the Houston area, was a member of an offensive line that helped produce the nation’s most prolific rushing attack. Navarro averaged a national-best 307.8 rushing yards per game.
Now, he’s planning on helping the ground game for a Jayhawks team looking to make some noise in the Big 12 next season.
“I’m looking forward to doing big things at Kansas,” he said.
