Utah RB commit set for official

Running back Troy McCormick (Katy, Texas/Mayde Creek) has not been to Utah before but he'll get his formal introduction this weekend.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pound three-star prospect, who committed to the Utes in November, saw photos of the campus and the Salt Lake City area from a friend, recent Utah commit Hipolito Corporan (Houston/Westside).

"I'm pretty excited," McCormick said. "I know it's snowing out there. [Hipolito] had pictures from his trip and it was snowing. So I'm excited."

McCormick, who also had an offer from Duke and interest from Oregon State and Utah State, had a productive senior season rushing for 1,758 yards and 21 touchdowns on 213 carries, averaging an impressive 8.25 yards per tote.

A speedy back, McCormick feels like he'll be a great fit in Utah's offense.

"I looked at what they were doing and stuff," he said. "I liked the way they use their running back.... I'm very fast. A lot of people don't have my speed. I know I have to put on some more weight but I'm not scared to get physical in the trenches."

He was recruited by safeties coach and recruiting coordinator Morgan Scalley, whom he thinks highly of.

"He's a great guy. He's always excited all the time," McCormick said. "He's never not excited and he's always talking to you with an excited voice."

Once he concludes his official visit, there won't be any more as he counts down the days until Feb. 6 when he can officially sign with the Utes.

"I'm solid on Utah," he said.
