Center Austin Davis (Mansfield, Texas), fresh off attending Oklahoma State’s junior day last weekend, confirmed Friday that he will be in Austin, Texas, Saturday for the Longhorns’ junior day.
A shade under 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, Davis is a key member of Mansfield’s offensive line. He is listed as a center but can play either guard or tackle if necessary.
Davis is looking at Saturday as an opportunity not only to flash his resume but also learn more about a school he’s respected all his life.
“I’m wanting to understand Texas football more,” Davis said. “I want to build a relationship with the coaches I meet and hopefully get an offer. It’s a dream for a Texas [high school] football player to play for the University of Texas, and I’m hoping I can have that opportunity.”
Whether or not he gets an offer, Davis said the invitation alone was something special and could carry him in his recruiting process. Davis currently is receiving looks from Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, SMU, Georgia Tech, Arizona and several other schools.
“It [the offer] was amazing, because Texas is so prestigious in its football traditions,” he said. “I felt honored that I was asked to attend their junior day.”
