Players to watch: Southlake (Texas) Carroll

As good as quarterback Kenny Hill was for Southlake (Texas) Carroll during the 2011 season, he didn’t do everything by himself. Hill is the first player to admit that.

“When people say that he ran for three touchdowns or threw for 300 yards, he’ll always say that he couldn’t have gotten it done without the O-line,” said Lorrie Hill, Kenny’s mother. “Or, he’d say his receivers were getting open, or his running backs were throwing blocks.

“He’s always giving it back to his teammates, especially his linemen. Stars don’t shine without the O-line, and nobody loves the O-line more than me.”

While Hill had the gaudy statistics – 3,006 passing yards, 1,383 rushing yards and 49 total touchdowns – and gained most of the recognition from the season, Carroll had several heroes who are expected to be major contributors as the team defends its state championship.

Hill was a featured subject last Tuesday, but here are four other Carroll players to keep an eye on for the 2012 season:

  • DB Tanner Jacobson: An extremely versatile player, Jacobson is listed as a safety but is quick enough to play cornerback. He had 149 tackles (96 solo) playing a rover position during the 2011 season. Jacobson also is a reliable kickoff and punt returner. Louisiana Tech and BYU are two schools high on him.
