After moving from Buhler, Kan., about a month ago, quarterback Chandler Shantz (Derby, Kan.) is settling in at his new school and with his new team. He’s also gaining additional interest from colleges after a productive junior season and, even more telling, recent camp and combine performances.
Shantz traveled to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in March to participate in the South Florida Elite Scouting Services combine. A week later, he was in the Dallas area for the Nike Football Training Camp.
“I’m starting to get a little more attention after the trips to Florida and Dallas,” Shantz said. “I have recently gotten interest from Rutgers, Purdue, West Virginia and Tulane.
“[The NFTC] has helped a lot. The coaching was really good, and I got a lot out of the drills. I enjoyed competing with and against the other top quarterbacks. It was fun.”
A 6-foot-4, 205-pound quarterback, Shantz is coming off a junior season that included more than 1,900 all-purpose yards and 24 touchdowns. Shantz is still looking for his first offer, but he is getting a lot of interest from Kansas, Kansas State and Tulsa. He has been invited to all three spring games. Shantz said that Northwestern has requested a transcript.
Shantz added that he will attend the National Underclassmen Combine in Wichita, Kan., this weekend, and he is planning unofficial visits to Rutgers, Boston College and Connecticut.
