Athlete Deion Sanders Jr. (Dawsonville, Ga./The Atlanta Sports Academy), the son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, announced Tuesday afternoon via social media that he has verbally committed to SMU.

“Did my time at prep school. Now I can say I am committed to SMU (Southern Methodist University) to play receiver!” tweeted Sanders, a 2012 Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus High School graduate who participated in the Under Armour All-America Game in January. He then followed the tweet with a “PonyUp” hashtag.

The tweet was then retweeted by his father, who runs Prime Prep Academy in Dallas.

A 5-foot-9, 175-pound cornerback/receiver, Sanders had a Houston offer out of high school. He also had interest from North Texas and Wake Forest. He caught 19 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 342 yards and three touchdowns as a high school senior.

Sanders became the Mustangs’ 22nd commitment of the 2013 recruiting class.
