RB Childs talks CSU, UH visits

The race for speedy, three-star running back Rennie Childs (Houston/Cypress Ridge) is among four schools, and Childs said all four will get official visits.

Colorado State, Houston, Utah State and Boise State are on Childs’ list, and he took an official visit to Colorado State last week. Childs, a 5-foot-11, 182-pound back, visited Houston over the weekend and enjoyed the time spent with his player host, freshman wide receiver Larry McDuffey, and the rest of the Cougars.

“I liked the coaches and players. Everybody seemed real cool,” Childs said about Houston. “It was like they were all brothers. Plus, it’s close to home, and my family can come see me play all my games. They’re playing at Reliant Stadium next year, so that’s something else.”

Childs said he will take a visit to Utah State on Jan. 12 and a trip to Boise State on Jan. 25. He said he most likely will announce his decision after the Boise State visit. Along with those four schools, Childs has offers from Louisiana-Lafayette, Rice, UTSA, Texas State and New Mexico.

Childs said the Colorado State visit helped to set the tone for the other three. The overall scenery of Fort Collins, Colo., really stood out for him, as he compared the picturesque views to something out of a movie.

“The mountains and everything, it was a nice place to be,” Childs said. “I can see myself living there after the football season. I really liked the coaches and players there, too.”

Childs put up huge numbers as a senior, rushing for 1,945 yards and 19 touchdowns and averaging better than nine yards per carry. He also caught 12 passes for 241 yards and two scores. As a junior, Childs rushed for 1,453 yards and 12 touchdowns.
