Blinn CB Jevon Neal signs with ODU

Old Dominion checked off just about every box Jevon Neal had on his list of what he was looking for in a college home.

And for that reason, Neal will be a Monarch.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pound cornerback from Brenham (Texas) Blinn College signed with Old Dominion on Wednesday morning.

He's the second Blinn College prospect to sign with the Monarchs on Wednesday. Offensive tackle Kyle Bottoms was the other.

Neal visited Old Dominion during the FCS playoffs when the Monarchs hosted Coastal Carolina. What he saw impressed him.

"It's a beautiful campus and a beautiful area," said Neal, who was offered by Coastal Carolina on Wednesday morning and also had offers from Gardner-Webb, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana and Stephen F. Austin. "It's a nice school and they have nice facilities and it's a good academic school. I feel like I'll be able to get a good degree from there because there's always life after football. I was looking at that standpoint of it. That was a good fit."

Recruited by special teams coordinator and offensive line coach Michael Zyskowski, Neal felt comfortable on multiple levels with the Monarchs. It didn't hurt that they recruited his teammate.

"Coming to an unknown environment, a place I don't know a lot of about, I have Kyle Bottoms there with me and everything," Neal said. "That's somebody I'm familiar with and am comfortable around."

Neal said he felt the staff was up front and honest with him about everything during the recruiting process, which is why he committed to them fewer than two weeks after his visit.

"Basically, I got to go down there and see for myself what they were talking about," Neal said. "I got to see them play and I got to actually see that they actually had proof of what they meant. I feel like that was important."
